HELLO!

I have another babble. But it is a question to YOU!

So, I would like to do some unique lighting in the house. Either some with some small flame, Like lanterns, wall-mounted candle holders, stuff like that. Option Two is a custom wired and computerized set of hidden LED's. The candles, more expensive, but most elegant. or LED's- a little too future-geeky but very safe and perhaps can be worked with. Also, the LED's will be a PITA!!! to set up.

Oye! Can anyone else think of something cool to do with a bachelor pad? I just want it to be really nice with an earthy set of colors, with comfortable reading and Chess areas, just a nice little place with some of my own sort of 1930's feel.. I may not have unlimited cash, but I might know a place or two.. Oh! And really soft, too. I *hate* hard edges.

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

Also, Wigwam is SUCH A GOOD BOY! I let him run all around the house sometimes, and he ALWAYS uses his litterbox. And check this out- He NEVER enters the kitchen. Won't touch the tiles. And then he'll come and hang out with me and munch on some carrots, then Off! again, to go run in circles or explore the bookshelves. And when it's time for him to go back home (out all the time could be dangerous! ) I walk over to him and crouch. He comes right out and goes back home. Oh, and he purrs when I pet him and he grooms my hand.

Not bad for a rodent, eh?

Oops... my bad!

Oh, And I read an article about a water-treatment (They used the word sewage, but everyone else uses 'water treatment'. I guess they wanted to drive the point a bit harder.) plant in SF that was to be named after GW Bush. I'm glad someone's having fun, right?

Meanwhile, I'm still figuring out how not to pay income tax.

School is almost done for the semester. My last two exams are this week- just in time. I could really use a breather- the tough classes I took, along with your standard post-relationship malaise made things pretty tough this time around. I must say, though- I learned a whole lot this time around! I can totally tell you what exactly happens to a body around death and afterwards. Call me the master of rigor mortis. :) But it's only a short time before I start a new set of classes. I need to start knocking out those little 1 credit classes, but it's a lot of paperwork to take on. I need to take at least 6 credits worth of classes to use my financial aid, and juggling more than 3 classes at a time is friggin' nuts. I'm going to have to suck it up and do it, though.

The oddest part is that the body seems to actually 'know' that it is dying. There's a series of changes that take place before death, called the 'agonal' phase. All physical changes, and of course they don't happen in sudden deaths- But I think the most curious thing happens after death- postmortem caloricity- when the cells of the body still have oxygen, but the death has occurred- the body actually warms up after death, due to metabolism and the body's inability to cool itself via respiration and such.. 'cause it's dead. But the cells still use that last little bit of oxygen.

Oh, This guy MADE some Nixie tubes for Valentine's day. Now that's pretty sharp!! That guy must be really good.. Working with glass like that and filling the tubes with proper gases? Hardcore, man. I just need to figure out how to drive one with it rotating through a series of numbers.

Otherwise, it's another too-short weekend here. I slept in all day yesterday, just stepping out for milk and cookies later on, and doing some studying. My grand plan to set up a grill failed me, though- gwennaelle presented me with a wee lil' Weber grill some years ago, and I haven't a chance to use it yet- no space at home, and I haven't an opportunity to take it to the beach. I thought I would just need to put some bricks down on my 'porch' and I would be ready to go.. but the hardware store is closed today. I'll just do it some other time, I really need to study.

And now, since I've babbled about studying for long enough, I guess it's time to go do it, hmm? I did get a wonderful motivator the other day. I learned the average yearly income for a funeral director in Chicago is SIX FIGURES.. dear god! I nearly choked on my tea when I read that. That would probably take a few years to work up to, but still. I do think I'd probably start off at a still somewhat handsome rate.

Good day!

Oh yeah, and in my joy after my exam: I counted four souls in the embassy, me and three cavy.
Exciting Saturday Night!

Firstly, I did my weekly testing for school today.. Then, after that, I usually read the first few pages of the next week's lesson to see what I need to do.

Next week's chemistry? The subtle arts of SPONTANEOUS COMBUSTION and DECOMP!!!

Seriously, that was a little out of left field!

But I'm pretty busy getting my ass kicked with school this semester, someone shoot me before I take so many 'heavy' courses again.. gotta keep a fluffy one in there, mm?

DOCTOR WHO: AMAZING. I won't give away the spoilers, as it *just* aired overseas. But OH MAN.

(Breathes into paper bag, promptly calms down)

Oh, and there was another school thing: They had me take an aptitude test from another company?! Standard 8 minute run through a bunch of questions designed to be little puzzles, only the last few were too tedious to work through. Then I see that's it's for employment?! EEEH?

Of courses, it could be, and probably is something totally unrelated, but wouldn't that be nice! Perhaps I could work for free classes, or the extra paycheck would always be welcomed!

What else? I'm playing with the idea of making arty little theremins. The schematics seem easy to make, and the instrument itself is practically screaming out for attention. I'll probably start on those soon.

*dribbles*

Sure, it's all "St. Fidel!!!" and all that, but reading what others are doing, and then wondering what else you're not hearing. As an american. They call us "The Empire", are we even close to doing the right thing? Are we being led somewhere bad? Just the differences overall..

It's like America is the last kid in the pool.
Wow! How things change when you actually do something about it:

1. I've found a soooper chess club (they have their own building and everything!" Less than a miles away. How about that!! I must find a chess set that is suitable for travel, my 'house' one is basically all glass: Beautiful to look at, a bitch to dust, and an even bigger bitch to move.

2. I heard that Tom Waits played two days ago!! Where was my memo!? I'm pretty sure I know where it is, but hey. sometimes things happen.

3. I put more art stuff together, added a few cards to my 'deck', which I've rated with ' do me alone!' I assign my ideas numbers tween one and five based on strength. A weak and a strong, are paired if they add up to five. So, those can be combined.

(Don't ever ask about the card system: It's a hodgepodge based on math, a constant, and random, with dice.)

4. Lollapalooza sucks this year!!! The lineup is awful.

5. Tonight, I will drink the kool-ade that is V for Vendetta. If anyone can take a movie as serious political idealism, is far past me and likely far past repair.

6. I seriously need to start taking advantage of the darkroom downstairs. I have about a TRILLION rolls of undeveloped film. Heck, I even jury-rigged a way to at least make negatives that I could never print!!!

7. oh, it's my baby's momma's birthday today. I sent her some of my food stamps as a gift.

You know, I really gotta keep hoping that the economy gets better soon.. Bad economy, no construction, nothing for me to do, so less money in my pocket. Used to be, I'd chalk up good overtime, consistently, but now, I'm lucky to make 40 hours a week. It's all good and all, I can always use more time to study for school, but DAMN! More money coming in makes that stuff easier, too. I've been wanting to hire a maid to come by a couple times a month, but that little birdie in my head tells me to sack away that cash and such, in case the shit really hits the fan.

It sucks! I need/want a bunch of new clothes. Instead, I have to evaluate what I need rather than want- Socks got a hole? Darn them and keep using them. Same with just about everything else, fix what you can. It's a very good attitude to have, re-using things instead of simply buying more, but HEY! I'd like a couple nice shirts in the closet and such. But that little birdie is usually right, so I have to get anal about bookkeeping. I guess that's what happens when you get older, you sometimes get a little smarter.

******

Meanwhile, As some of you already know, Egon Schiele is easily one of my most favored and influential artists. I won't go into the long, long reasons why, but I am rather enamored by the man.. In a sort of neat way, a bunch of Chicagoans got together and made a movie about him. I got the flyer, got excited to meet the cast, watch the movie, maybe even find a kindred spirit or two. But.. In typical fashion, I got the flyer two days late.. so it goes, right? That's life.. I'm hoping to get a copy on DVD, perhaps if it's not being released, I can beg up a bootleg from somewhere, if I ask nice enough.

That brings me to another matter: Outlining my artistic growth for the time being. Soon I will paint again. I've gathered up a few good ideas on paper, and now I need to extrapolate and combine them. I'll probably be using a set of index cards (Not unlike Brian Eno's Oblique Strategies cards.) and a set of dice.. and a big fucking eraser. I'll be drawing from some new and old sources.. and here's a clue: Blood splatter (Yes, real.) and organics, like my guinea pigs having their paws painted with non-toxic ink and led to walk around.. You can easily see how these separate ideas can be blended together for some really rather interesting things.

*****

Why am I so suddenly thinking of such things, while this week has seen me in probably the worst depressive fit I've had in ages? I need to remember that there is a tomorrow for me. There's just been so much uncertainty (Heck, not too long before Kat left, she was talking about moving in together! Shit changes in a heartbeat.) and bad luck altogether, not to mention the stress at work- being one of the only 'professionally' behaving persons there distorts what's right and wrong.. I do the right thing, but it's actually the wrong thing, according to the majority's skewed set of values.

So, yeah. I look forward to creating again- I think I may have found a person or two whom I can bounce ideas off of, which is immensely helpful. (Yes, I'm looking at you, sage_grouse I like what you're doing, And I think you'll love the things I'm thinking of, perhaps we can bounce and bite a few ideas off each other.)

And GODDAMN I need to play chess with a HUMAN before I freak out.. computer chess gets very boring quickly, it's really only good for practice. schroteri, Do you play?
Metropolis Coffee is the WORST place to get coffee from. Good beans, but the staff has a BAD case of elite-barista-attitude. I basically had three employees gang up on me because I didn't want to be served by one that had given me trouble before- he was more than overzealous about their cell phone policy- ****I had my blackberry in my hand, and so, he refused to serve me.. ***

wtf is this shit? It's coffee, for fuck's sake. I've done the job, it's not hard.. Yet they've fucked up EVERY ORDER I've placed there. I quit! I'm just going to keep the coffee at home.. asides, what's better than blending and making your coffee just how you want it?

A running commentary on season 2 of "Rome"

This is a 10 hour HBO series about .. Rome. Written entirely from a tired art history geek's perspective.

*shoves glasses into place*

Episode 1, I forget your name. You were sad and transitory, with the Most Excellent actor and Most Excellent JULIUS CAESAR! dead and rather messy. He was missed, the city and everything went into chaos: Lucius gets robbed, beaten, drunk, and then his wife gets killed and he tells his children to fuck off of' eva, but he was just angry and shit. Titus the SMASHER OF THINGS grabs his new wife and horse, and bolt for Rome to help out Titus, because, due to the subtly of Latin and whatnot, "Caesar is dead!" also means "Your friend is way fucked!".

Corpses are burning. The production values are still good. People are humped, or murdered. Some boob is shown. We remember that Titus and Lucius are cooler than Caesar, because they killed a dozen people. and carried the head like it was a Kate Spade bag, all through Rome and shit. During this time, Titus's wife went to go make porridge and disappeared. She's probably taking the porridge out to the bears in the woods, where nothin' nice happens, but you already know that story.

Episode 2: "Son of Hades" You get mentioned because of the cool title.

This is rather tiring, I think I'll quit while I'm ahead...

Mental note: balance out the negativity with positivity, you have to suffer and be negative on your own, it is better to make sure not to overburden anyone with your own pain. Make sure that the ones you share your pain with are told how meaningful they are to you, because that's why you share your pain with them.

(this bit of emotional calculus has been left open in case someone else needs it.) Not Sarah, of course! But that lovely tan scarf was sitting right there. I picked it up, felt it in my hands, and looked up and smiled. Some thing the thin gypsy thief left me.

I gotta say, that was an amazing experiance. Sarah was smashing, brilliant! We both just gave into something amazing for a moment, we pulled ourselves around random phones, internet cafes, thousands of miles, waves crashing on the beach; a blanket of snow! Plans for plane tickets. moving in together, trips to europe, with means to do it all!

And her visit here: it was just amazing. It just fills me with so much joy; I have a hard time expressing it! Two weeks after an hour and a kiss more than a thousand miles away, she comes to my door.

I used to be angry that things turned out like it did: But now I know better. We were a supernova; a brilliant thing that would be a miracle if it lasted, but it's impossible- it burns so hot and bright; it destroys itself. All you can do is experiance and remember that simple, natural perfection and love those memories for what they are, something wonderful that you'll remember until the end.

1. Scarlet Johannsen album?

FLUSH IT. Don't even WASTE THE BANDWITH downloading it. THAT IS ALL I WILL SAY!

2. Metropolis is my new favorite coffee haus. I bought a pound over there today, roasted a day ago, and it was weighed after the beans were roasted, which most places don't do, beans are lighter after roasting. LIQUID GOLD! So tasty !

3. I got an itch to head to NYC real soon. Can't really do it right now, but that's no big deal.

4. I did a stupid good thing for the lady down at the Happy American Grocery! around the corner. I had to buy a lighter, and this guy came in, looking for trouble. Details spared, I hung around trying how to tacke a man and stab him in the kidney at the same time (Don't look at me like that., please. The knife's a tool for work, officer!). Nothing happened, but she noticed and smiled and waved as I walked out the door from my spot behind a rack.

4. Time to play wit thee paints, chyes.

5. And for the second time, I whacked myself in the head on the dock door again. Square across the eye, and I'm afraid to see how it will look tomorrow! It still smarts and feels puffy.

Don't worry, if I get a shiner, I'll post photos.

And all in all, it's been a few good days.
My keepers.

My keepers are a trio of adolescent guinea pigs. They WHEEEEEK at me as soon as I walk in, and Wigwam won't quit until I pick him up and give him some attention, which is pretty cute. The other two begin a chorus of squeaking as soon as they hear a bag crinkle (FOOD!).

So, I decided to make some toys for them tonight to keep them occupied. This is not a new thing at all, cardboard tubes and such are pretty usual fare for the pigs. Today, though, I got a bit devious. I stuffed a couple small boxes with carrots and parsley, folded them shut, and placed them in the cages.

HILARITY ENSUES!!!!

The're irritated. They're like "I smell flayrah! In this box! But... oh! Something moved!" Dragging it all around, they haven't thought to gnaw on the box. Wigwam, the cleverest, has been picking his vegetables out of a hole he found in the box, the others.. they're like KIBBLE TIME!!!!

Ok, back to bed. I promised myself a very early night!

Freak moment.

The moment Friday night turned into a film noir movie, just for a month.

There's a guy here practicing some sort of jazzy tuba stuff.. I can hear him across the alleyway; and then I see the moving of a shadow- in time with the music. It's the outline of the tuba, bouncing back and forth.

and back to spooks!

It might be best not to get started...

AAAAAnyhow, I don't have much going on at all. Just having fun with this and that, between the pigs and paintn'. Kind of clearing up things, I don't like projects gathering too much dust. Today, I dicked around and got Sammy on the network, a big G4 with a huge drive.. I'm just going to use it for backup dumps here and there.

I finally got a travel watercolor kit of some quality. It looks like corn.

Corn?

daaaah-dah.
